2.3 Olds Quad 4 Photos

My Quad rebuilt and ready to go.
I can't wait to fire it up.
This thing just looks like a racing engine.
I'm still looking for a good picture of an Offenhauser to upload.
This shot shows the stock alternator bracket cut off.
I'll have to make an adjustment bracket later.
Also the brand new alternator I found at the salvage yard.
This is the cool tube type intake manifold.

I finely found a picture of a real Offenhauser engine. This one is even turbo charged. these were about 250 cu in displacement.
The Quad4 is about 130 cu in.

In order to get my throw out bearing to work I had to fine a new front bearing retainer, that whole flange and the tube extending forward to carry the throw out. Not easy since I'm in a new town.
Here is the hydrolic throw out bearing installed and the line brought out through the bell housing

I have the clutch and throw out bearing installed and the trans and bell housing put on the block. I'm ready to reinstall the Quad 4 into the chassis.
A couple shots after the engine was hoisted into place. Time to put the starter and alternator in place.  Lots done now but still lots to do.
I used my lathe to make couplings to assemble the cooling pipes all the way to the radiator from the back of the engine. It took about 6 feet of elbows and u- shapes to get it there. There's a notch cut in ends of the steel couplings for the hose clamps to grab. I had to make 10 or 12 of them.
Just a shot of the intake side of the Quad.. It all fits in very neatly.
